Pinterest To Introduce Video Ads
It has been reported that Pinterest is looking to launch native adverts on its social network for the first time. It has been suggested that the adverts will be native to Pinterest’s platform and content. This suggests the ads are likely to take the form of ‘pin’ posts, containing how-to content.

VR Revenue To Hit $126 Billion
Revenue from Virtual Reality (VR) is set to be big, with Augmented Reality (AR) potentially eclipsing VR, according to a study from Digi-Capital. AR, released later than expected, is set to reach $90bn by 2020, with VR set to top $30bn in the same time. Sony Playstation VR and mobile VR (from Samsung and others) are expected to be the initial consumer VR market drivers, changing installed base forecasts in favour of mobile VR. This has been VR’s week, with Deloitte predicting its first billion-dollar year in 2016. The company’s ‘Technology, Media and Telecommunications Predictions 2016’ report predicts that 2.5 million VR headsets and 10 million games will be sold this year. This comes as Google has reportedly set up a dedicated Virtual Reality (VR) department, and has appointed appointed company executive Clay Bavor to run the unit.

Yahoo Introduces Native Ads on BrightRoll
Programmatic native advertising is now available on the Yahoo BrightRoll exchange, Yahoo has announced. Advertisers, DSPs and agency trading desks leveraging the BrightRoll Exchange for display advertising will now also have access to bid on native mobile inventory via a new API that aligns with the IAB OpenRTB 2.3 standard.

Starcom MediaVest Appoints VivaKi’s Marco Bertozzi to Global CEO of Performance Marketing

Starcom MediaVest Group has appointed VivaKi chief Marco Bertozzi to the newly-created role of global chief executive of performance marketing. Bertozzi will be responsible for combining Publicis Groupe-owned agency’s search, social and programmatic offerings into a single performance marketing arm.

Adform Announces Global Video Partnership With Dailymotion
Video platform, Dailymotion, and Adform have announced a global partnership that allows advertisers to purchase Dailymotion’s in-stream inventory and to access the video platform’s worldwide audience. The OpenRTB integration agreed between both companies will allow Adform’s clients to benefit from fast and secure access to DMX’s instream inventory with enhanced targeting options.

U.S Digital Display Ad Spending to Surpass Ad Spending
The categories of video, sponsorships, rich media and “banners and other” will account for the largest share of digital ad spending, a new report from eMarketer has found. During 2016, digital display ad spending is set to surpass search ad spending in the U.S for the first time.

Twitter Launches Channel Dedicated to Gaming
Micro-blogging site, Twitter, has consolidated the best tweets about games into a single place, the new Twitter Gaming channel. Twitter has said that Twitter Gaming should organise the thousands of gaming-related tweets sent on Twitter each day.

CMA Clears BT/EE Merger
After it had provisionally cleared the merger of BT and EE, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have cleared BT’s anticipated acquisition of EE. The CMA’s investigation has had to be vigorous and detailed after a range of concerns were raised by operators and customers in the UK telecoms industry.

Apple Exits The Ad World
Apple has announced that it won’t be accepting any more publishers to its iAd network as of the end of June 2016 as it confirms that it is to exit the advertising business. The announcement brings to an end Apple’s six-year bid to firmly entrench itself in the advertising game. 

Somoto Expands Into Video Advertising
Technology company Somoto has announced it is expanding into the world of video advertising with the news that they have acquired Israeli digital advertising network, Terser Tude Ltd. Terser Tude counts video for mobile and video advertising solutions as 65 per cent of their activity.

Bot Fraud to Cost Marketers More Than $7 Billion
Advertisers are expected to lose around $7bn globally in 2016, as a result of fraudulent impressions, or bots, according to a study from the Association of National Advertisers (ANA). The study also concluded that fraud levels are relatively unchanged compared to the results of a similar study conducted a year ago.

Nielsen Social To Monitor Facebook
Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings will now also encompass Facebook, the data measurement company has announced. Nielsen’s Social Content Ratings will be the first solution to measure aggregate-level program-related conversation on Facebook and Twitter, including posts shared with friends and family, with followers, and publicly.

Millennial Viewing Habits Persist As They Age
The viewing habits of UK millennials has remained consistent as they get older, according to the ‘Perennial Millennial’ report from L.E.K Consulting. The report suggests that media players will need to adapt more rapidly to the new reality of OTT video, and that major UK TV companies face the “growing threat” that those aged 16-34 have a preference for new media channels.

Third of Top 100 Apple TV Apps are Games
One third of the top 100 Apple TV Apps are gaming Apps, the analytics company App Annie has found, as Apple released updated TV, with an app-based platform. While the Apple Watch supports far more categories than Apple TV at this time, this represented a higher degree of category consolidation than was seen from the top five Apple Watch categories in December.

Corus Entertainment Acquires Shaw Media
Canadian media company, Corus Entertainment, has annnounced it has entered into an agreement to acquire the television broadcasting division of Shaw Communications, Shaw Media. Corus Entertainment will acquire all of Shaw Media, including its leading brands, portfolio and entertainment media stations.

SVoD Now In 12 Per Cent of French Homes
SVoD services are now in 12 per cent of French homes according to Médiamétrie’s VOD360 survey. 65 per cent of French web users know what SVoD is, with services mainly driven by two big players, Canalplay and Netflix, as well as challenger Filmo TV.

38 Per Cent of Households Use Amazon Prime
Amazon’s loyalty programme, Amazon Prime, has penetrated almost 40 per cent of the U.S market, according to Investors Business Daily. Amazon Prime now has 41 million members, up 32 per cent from the previous December.

Starhub and Netflix Announce Partnership
Netflix will be available through Starhub’s fibre-TV customers through their set-top boxes by the early second quarter of 2016, Starhub have announced. StarHub Broadband, Mobile and TV customers will be able to pay for their Netflix subscriptions via their StarHub bills.

Netflix Reports 75 Million Subscribers
SVoD provider, Netflix, has reported a surge in customers for its last quarter, bringing the total numbers of subscribers to 74.76 million. Netflix is forecasting growth of 6.10 million, up from 4.88 million the year earlier.

RedPill Announces New Strategy Director
Social video site, RedPill, have announced Jon Williams to their board as their new strategy director, he joins them from Opera Mediaworks.

Paid OTT Watched By Over A Quarter
Globally, 25 per cent of consumers are watching paid OTT services such as Netflix, according to a study from Paywizard. The study also shows that an additional 27 per cent are planning to subscribe in late 2015.

Over Half Of Pay TV Consumers Believe TV Everywhere Isn’t Free
54 per cent of pay TV consumers believe that TV Everywhere isn’t free, and 53 per cent don’t use it because they don’t know the capability existed, a report from Hub Entertainment Research has found. More than 90 per cent of U.S TV homes subscribe to a service that enables TV Everywhere.

Kenya Threatens to Ban Netflix Over ‘Inappropriate’ Content
Kenya’s film board has threatened to ban Netflix after warning that its content threatens the nation’s morals and security, Kenyan news outlet reported.
