Facebook’s video hub Watch and YouTube’s paid service YouTube Red have struggled to draw in audiences, and the problem lies in their economic models says Vevo CSO Kevin McGurn. Here McGurn explains why he feels social media is missing a big opportunity by not getting their premium content right, and why he believes they need to move away from their “engineering driven, algorithmic habits”, towards a system which can sustainably support quality content. Filmed in San Sebastian at TV Rise 2018.
