Youku Signs VOD Movie Deal with NBC Universal

Youku, NBC Universal Television DistributionYouku, China’s leading online video platform, has signed a deal with NBC Universal for the VOD rights in China to a wide collection of current and upcoming NBC Universal feature films. The films include Schindler’s List, The Mummy,, Jurassic Park, Trainspotting, Being John Malkovich, and The Big Lebowski, which will be available for on-demand viewing through Youku Premium.

Youku has previously signed licensing deals with Disney, Viacom’s Paramount, DreamWorks, Time Warner’s Warner Bros. and News Corp.’s 20th Century Fox. The company also strengthened its position in the Chinese market by acquiring Tudou, one of its leading rivals in the Chinese market.

As well as past releases, the deal will also include upcoming movies such as Contraband, Safe House, The Lorax, and blockbuster releases such as Battleship and Snow White & The Huntsman. The new films will appear on Youku’s platform for paid on-demand viewing after their China theatrical releases.
