Video and CTV ad tech business ShowHeroes Group this morning announced it has acquired Vidds, an AI-powered video creation and editing platform, for an undisclosed fee.
Vidds, founded in 2020, is a video creation tool which has a number of AI generation tools built in. Its campaign planner enables users to type out a rough idea for a video, and it will automatically create a slideshow-style video which can then be edited and refined. Vidds also has text-to-speech capabilities for AI voiceovers, and AI-powered auto subtitling.
Vidds’ tools are already integrated into ShowHeroes Studios, ShowHeroes’ video creation and editing software for publishers and advertisers. Hanne Li-Lundmark, global director of Studios at ShowHeroes Group, said that the AI-driven tools have added significant value for publishers and advertisers using the platform. “From the moment we started working with Vidds, we saw the impact it had on our workflow, enabling our team to produce top-quality editorial video content faster and more effectively,” said Li-Lundmark.
Bringing Vidds fully in-house allows it to further optimise and customise the technology to fit creative processes within ShowHeroes Studios.
Short-term and long-term AI value
There’s clearly a lot of potential for AI to bring down the costs of video production through text-to-video capabilities, enabling publishers and advertisers without massive budgets to create video content which previously would have been unaffordable due to high production costs.
We’re not yet at a point where a creative can simply type an idea into a text-to-video generator and receive a fully-formed piece of editorial video or ad creative (and how long it will be until we get to that point is anyone’s guess). But in the short term, there’s still plenty of value in less flashy tools which nonetheless speed up processes and cut down costs.
Ilhan Zeglin, co-founder and CEO of ShowHeroes Group, said that Vidd’s capabilities have become an integral part of ShowHeroes Studios’ video production workflow, as it allows editorial teams to streamline content creation without sacrificing quality, allowing them to make video content at greater scale and efficiency.
