It’s “Profoundly Undemocratic” for Social Media Platforms to Not be Regulated says Jack Straw

While there’s debate about how exactly the likes of Google and Facebook can be regulated, regulation is absolutely necessary says Jack Straw, former UK Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary. Without proper regulation, too much power lies in the hands of individual shareholders like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, which is “profoundly undemocratic” says Straw. In this interview, Straw also discusses the responsibility the social platforms have for content which they host, and whether modern governments and regulators are well equipped to govern the complex modern digital advertising ecosystem.
