Many of our speakers at New Video Frontiers this year talked about the challenges posed by the “duopoly” of Facebook and Google, with many marketers and publishers feeling forced to mould their digital strategies around these two companies’ platforms. With new platforms for content popping up all the time though, we’re still in the early days of digital says Oath’s VP of video content and syndication Dave Simon, and the canvas for digital creators isn’t locked to Facebook and Google. In this presentation Simon provides examples of new platforms that brands and media companies are using to tell stories, and how Oath helps brands make the most of these opportunities.
Speaking to VAN after his presentation, Simon explained why he believes now is the ideal time to build a brand, both for new companies wanting to create an identity and for existing brands looking to connect with audiences in new ways. He describes the importance for brands of using new platforms and technology for storytelling, and explains why Oath is neither a media company nor a tech company, but a media tech company.
