AI Targeting is Not Manipulation says Texture AI’s James Carney

Tim Cross 16 October, 2017

The ethical concerns that are cropping up around the use of AI and machine learning for marketing are exaggerated says Dr. James Carney, director of Texture AI. He argues that while AI certainly can target specific stimuli in specific people, this has always been the aim of advertising, and AI simply provides a more effective way to do so. In this interview Carney also discusses the importance of pairing AI with data on human psychology, and the ways in which his company uses AI for marketing. Filmed in London at New Video Frontiers 2017.
