Maker Studios’ Move to Sell Other YouTube Inventory Was a Pivotal Moment for MCNs

Most of the multi-channel networks (MCNs) originally aimed to manage talent, rights and monetisation by aggregating YouTube channels. However, over the last few years they have been evolving into a variety of other areas such as content marketing and content production. Recently Maker Studios, the world’s largest MCN, announced that it is to start selling inventory not only on its own channels, but across all YouTube inventory. To do that, Maker Studios is partnering with Outrigger Media, whose ‘OpenSlate’ platform allows advertisers to optimize and measure campaigns across YouTube. Here Mike Henry, CEO at Outrigger Media, discusses the partnership with Maker and how OpenSlate works.
