Vevo, the online music video giant, saw video views on mobile/tablet and connected TV soar by 201 percent year on year. The music video hosting service published a variety of stats comparing Vevo’s 2013 traffic with what the achieved in 2012, providing a clear picture of a video business in transition away from desktop and on to other connected devices. Growth on the same emerging platform was slightly lower, but still a staggeringly high 176 percent for 2013:

Vevo's UK Connected TV/Mobile Views Up 201%

As well as providing some interesting insights into consumer behaviour, Vevo is an interesting case study in terms for anyone interested in looking at how quickly IP-delivered video businesses can scale globally, even if the service has some powerful stakeholders: Vevo is a joint venture of Universal Music Group, Google, Sony Music Entertainment and Abu Dhabi Media. Vevo didn’t launch until 2009, but last December they clocked up 243 million unique users in that month alone. Other stats to chew on are:

  • 55 billion music videos viewed globally in 2013, up 33% over 2012
  • 2.6 billion music videos viewed in UK in 2013, up 29% over 2012
  • 5.5 billion monthly views worldwide (December 2013) vs 3.8 billion (December 2012)
  • 165 million videos viewed daily worldwide (July – December 2013), up 40% vs. the same period in 2012
