Ad of the Week: Southern Comfort, ‘Whatever’s Comfortable’

Vincent Flood 09 August, 2012

This week’s Ad of the Week comes from Southern Comfort and was produced by Wieden and Kennedy’s New York office as part of the ‘Whatever’s Comfortable’ campaign. This ad could be described as the male equivalent of Dove’s ‘Campaign for Real Beauty’, in that the ad’s hero is overweight and yet manages to be the coolest man on Earth, entirely confident his own skin. The beautiful people do feature, but they’re a sideshow to the main act – a middle-aged man with a paunch strutting, strangely hypnotically, down a beach on a hot sunny day. Here is a man you want to drink with.
